Asics OVA Invitational

We are in the early wave on Saturday morning.  There are two different venues that this tournament is being held at.  We will be playing at the Orlando Sports Center (OVA facility) on Saturday morning.  For directions from your hotel go to www.orlandovolleyball.com.  Our schedule on Saturday is as follows:

8am-ref assignment  (Players there by 7:30 am)  Be dressed and ready to play by 7:45 because our warm-up will start immediatly after we are done reffing.

9am- play Tampa Club Storm

11am-play OVA 17's National team

12pm-ref assignment

1pm-play Club Florida (Ft. Lauderdale)

Depending on how we do on Saturday, our venue may change on Sunday to the Orange County Convention Center.  We will know more about our Sunday schedule before we part ways on Saturday.  I would suggest that you get directions to both venues from your hotel before you leave for the tournament.  These directions will also be available on the OVA website.
This is a very big tournament~with close to 400 teams registered to play in all age groups.  I am looking forward to the competition and excitement that we had at our last tournament!  As always, call with any questions that you may have and look forward to seeing everyone bright and early on Saturday morning!

Jax Jam

We are in the late "wave" on Saturday, February 7.  We are scheduled to play at 2pm at FCCJ south campus.  Players need to be there by 12:30, to get dressed, stretched and ready to play.  Based on how we play in our "pool" will determine what time we play on Sunday, which we should know before we come home on Saturday night.

I would suggest that parents pack a cooler with snacks and drinks for their own daughter and keep it in your vehicle.    I am not sure how long we will be playing or how much time in between games we will have.  We can't bring our coolers into the gym.  Please go to www.jjva.com for instructions on the cooler situation.

It is the players responsibility to have their own drinks when playing. They should have enough to drink to last them the duration of the match (best two out of three games).  There should be plenty of time in between matches to get "refills".  I would prefer that the parents NOT bring drinks to their daughter in the middle of a match.  The players should be focused on the game and coaching instruction during the match (including timeouts, in between games and when they are sitting on the bench.)  This is a situation that I feel very strongly about and I appreciate your cooperation with this issue.

We are in a pool with: St. Augustine Volleyball Academy, Golden Isles, & TJVBC.  I am really looking forward to it, especially after our scrimmage last weekend!  Great job girls!!

Big South Tournament Hotel Information

The Big South tournament is taking place in Atlanta.  There will be over 800 teams from all over the nation competing in this tournament.  Since this is such a big event, they have put a deadline on reserving hotel rooms.  My deadline to have the hotel booked is January 30th.  I have reserved 12 rooms at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center.  It is located 2 miles away from the tournament site and is $119/night.  It has a restaraunt in it that serves breakfast, lunch & dinner.  That will be a nice option considering we will be in downtown Atlanta!  Call the THS Company for reservations at 888-536-8326.  Tell them that you are with Fernandina Beach Volleyball Club and that we have booked rooms.  I have held the rooms with my credit card so in order for me not to be charged, you have to call and give them your information.  Please keep in mind, if you need more than one room, they will be glad to assist you with that for the same price.  I know some of you may have family meeting you in Atlanta or are bringing your whole family and may need more room.  They are very nice and will be glad to help you with any accomidations.         I appreciate all that you are doing to make our first club season together a great one!  I am blessed to have such a wonderful group of players and parents!       ~Coach Strumlauf
